The UCP San Carlo was founded in 1998 as an operational unit integrated into the minimally invasive and laparoscopic general surgery service. Subsequently recognized by the SIUCP - Italian Unitary Society of Coloproctology - as a Highly Specialized Center, it participated in numerous Italian and European multicenter studies dedicated to the study and development of new techniques and technologies in the coloproctological field.
A dedicated outpatient service is available at the UCP San Carlo, where it is possible to perform a proctological examination, anoscopy, endoanal ultrasound for the study of pelvic floor and proctological pathologies.
The UCP carries out screening for HPV-related anal cancer and makes use of a dedicated second-level advanced radiology service which performs: traditional and virtual abdominal CT scan, dynamic pelvic MRI. Rx defecography, cystography and ultrasound study.
The activity of UCP San Carlo is completed by the Gastroenterology service for the intestinal endoscopic study, the functional anorectal and esophageal manometric study and the Urogynecology outpatient service for the evaluation of urinary retention and/or incontinence, uro-dynamic study and rehabilitation pelvic.
