The idea of a colonproctology organization developed in Italy in 1978.
In that year the Italian Academy of Colon-Proctology was founded.
This was followed in 1992 by the Society of Colon-Proctology (SICP) and the Italian Association of Colon-Proctology Units (UCP).
On the occasion of the IV National Congress of the Italian Association of UCPs, organized in Modena by Dr Carriero, Prof. Rosa, at that time President of SICP, hoped for the birth of a Unitary Society.
The first stone was laid in 1998 in Sorrento, where the 1st Joint Congress of the two Societies was organized by Prof. Del Genio and Dr. Landolfi.
The Unitary Italian Society of Colon-Proctology (SIUCP) was finally born in 2002.
In Rome, in June 2003, the 1st SIUCP Congress was organized by Prof. Arullani and Prof. Milito.
On that occasion, elections took place for the designation of the President and the first Directors Board.
Since then the SIUCP, which has progressively grown in the number of members, has had the following Presidents:
