The UCP of the AORN Cardarelli was born at the General Surgery Unit 3 of the AORN Cardarelli with the need to sectorize the skills of the various specialists who have been working in the field of colon-proctology for years to offer increasingly rapid and up-to-date responses in the treatment of these pathologies.
It is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of organic and functional pathologies of the colon, rectum, anus and pelvic floor. It makes use of the collaboration of the U.O. of gastroenterology, urology, gynecology, neurology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, pelvic floor rehabilitation service.
With the most modern and advanced technologies, diagnostic investigations and surgical interventions are performed for:
- Colorectal neoplasms
- Prolapse of the rectum
- ODS (obstructed defecation syndrome)
- Fecal incontinence or stubborn constipation
- Hemorrhoidal pathology
- Anal fistulas
- Pilonidal fistulas
- Anal fissure
- Inflammatory bowel diseases
Surgical operations are carried out with ordinary hospitalization, as a week-surgery or as a day surgery without or with an overnight stay.
- Hospitalization in Day Surgery is reserved for patients suffering from coloproctological pathologies that require observation for 4 to 24 hours. It involves a three-access care process during which the patient receives the appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Ordinary and/or Week-Surgery hospitalization is reserved for patients who must undergo major colorectal and pelvic floor surgery. It involves a care process divided into two accesses: one day's pre-admission and the subsequent hospitalization.

Access mode
To access the various services, a clinical and instrumental evaluation of the patient is necessary in the Colonproctology Clinic where the patient will be able to perform: anorectal examination, recto-sigmoidoscopy, anoscopy, anorectal manometry, anorectal echoendoscopy.
