Meeting rationale
The functional pathologies of the digestive system, that is, those conditions where normal digestive functions
are altered without any immediately identifiable organic cause, are increasingly observed in our daily clinical
practice. These functional alterations can affect every part of the digestive system, particularly the esophagealgastric
and recto-anal junctions, often with a very long course and symptoms that significantly impact patients'
quality of life.
A crucial role in the treatment of these pathologies, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), obstructed
defecation syndrome (ODS), anal incontinence (AI), and also GERD in patients eligible for bariatric surgery, is
increasingly entrusted to surgery. Identifying indications and limits for these interventions remains a topic of
vigorous debate among specialists.
Participation in this event, organized exclusively in Round Tables among recognized opinion leaders, aims to
provide a high scientific and educational update on the most recent epidemiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic
developments related to functional digestive pathologies of surgical interest. Additionally, the implementation
of two pre-congress courses represents an added value for those wishing to enhance their knowledge in
specialized functional digestive diagnostics.
